So well written and I had never heard of these mysteries, which is surprising for me, but I am so grateful you shared this. I agree we have lost the sacredness in rituals, ceremonies and our inner connection to each other, cosmos and earth. Oh what a better world we would have if we all understood and could see that. 🌀 Happy Birthday as well!
So glad you enjoyed it, and thank you so much! It’s fascinating how so many rituals like these have been buried/forgotten by most, and I do think collectively we’re longing for a resurrection of mystery in many senses of those words. And I think a revival is happening as we awaken to the source of that longing :)
Weee!! You mentioned my two favorite books this year. And I have to say, you did a great job at summing up a 16 hour audiobook haha.
The end of The Madonna Secret split me wide open. It was such a healing experience. I felt my insides being reshaped by a story that felt so true and clear.
“Birth is the closest thing to death. Death is the closest thing to birth. Women have known this secret for thousands of years. Long ago your people buried their dead in the floors of their homes. They slept pressed against the bones of their lost children. They knew they were not truly lost. The dead are but seeds, waiting to grow again.” - The Madonna Secret
Tea cup cheers to you during this growing twilight season. What a beautiful time to be born 😌
Ah The Madonna Secret, what a novel! I don't know anyone else who's read it - I feel like it should be a classic though, so glad to hear you loved it as well ❤️ and thank you for reading!
Very interesting indeed, thanks for writing and sharing!…I think we are mythologically malnourished these days as a culture. In desperate need of deeper meaning and knowledge beyond utilitarian reasoning, collectively and individually. I don’t think we’ve gone backwards as a society but in someways we are stuck in a very weird and suffocating space, we want to make our material lives better and better, great, but if thats the only way we have of engaging with our existential situation we end up in a state of horrifying inner poverty. Thats why I appreciate contemplations like your article, we’re having to do some detective work with our ancestors and rediscover our depths what we seem to have lost contact with on mass. I think thats one reason I got so inspired by Buddhism as it is a very real possibly or path for many people to move towards the kind of explorations of consciousness and collective life you describe in your article.
